Dissolve: What Remains, 2022 Solo Installation
Dissolve: What Remains is an installation of the artist’s year-long video project, Dissolve, and the pieces of yupo paper featured in the video, accompanied by handmade cushions. Referencing Buddhist mala beads, each paper disc contains on one side a permanent water ripple design, and on the other, a watercolor silhouette portrait. Dissolve documents the artist’s own meditations on the impermanence of self and what remains of us after death, utilizing the discs as both mala and stand-in for the body. The space invites visitors to spend time sitting on the cushions with the scattered discs, meditating to the sounds of the video, or reflecting on the self, the body, and the transitory nature of life.
